It has taken me a long time but I am finally doing what I have always wanted: I am working as an artist and teacher. I love doing both and they feed into each other.
The last few years have been very successful for me personally with several of my quilts being accepted into major prestigious juried shows for contemporary and art quilts, and curated exhibitions. This gave me the confidence to make the leap from working in an FE College to running my own teaching studio.
I have recently completed a Masters Degree at University of Brighton. It was a practice based degree over 2 years part time which has already informed my own practice beyond the scope of the degree itself. I explored plaster casting and ceramics as part of the work, finding the appropriate expression for my project: The Fragility of Memory – Holding an Absence. This was also the title of my gallery at Festival of Quilts at the NEC in August 2015.
I am also a member of Quilt Art, the international quilt group which constantly pushes at the boundaries of quilting and am a founder member of unFOLD, the textile art group which recently had a very successful gallery at the Knitting & Stitching shows at Alexandra Palace and Harrogate International Centre.
